Alfie’s Story

Alfie Best is a highly motivated business magnate, investor, speaker and philanthropist who serves as the chairman of Wyldecrest Parks.

To achieve success is not easy and to maintain that success is even harder but Alfie Best has shown how it can be done, even when you have not been born with the proverbial silver spoon in the mouth.

Born of humble origins and raised in a Romany Gypsy family, this self-made man studied at “University of Life” and started his professional success story totally from scratch. However, coming from a struggling background and a minority group only gave him even more desire to succeed. As a gypsy, he had to face many obstacles and prejudices but he has never allowed those to ruin his dreams and ambitions or to disrupt his investments into the businesses he operates. Instead, he has taken those negative prejudices and turned them into positives by surrounding himself with a diverse and multicultural team. Alfie Best manages his businesses as a real leader, knows his employees by name and likes to meet all residents of his mobile home parks.

He believes that the most important thing in life is to be surrounded by the right people and likes to practice a very hands-on approach as a leader to motivate his team to always battle from the same side. That’s why he invests a great deal in the expansion of his team as the businesses expand as well. He focuses on hiring the right people for the right jobs and is personally involved in the whole process. He truly believes that to invest in people is the best investment you can ever make – thus he is frequently heard saying that he never invests in businesses, he invests in people.

Full of new ideas to drive his businesses forward and always welcoming new ones, Alfie Best does not ask anyone to do something he couldn’t or wouldn’t do himself. He’s always looking for new businesses to invest in but is also very conscious that the most important thing is to be in control of your business. However, he likes a challenge, and over the years, he started to expand its corporate arena and became a specialist in buying up businesses that are struggling, turning them around and making them profitable again.

Alfie Best started working at the age of 8 years old, with his father, laboring and tarmacking. With his first business at the age of just 14 years old, buying and selling cars and vans, he quickly moved on and, during the 1990’s,  became the owner of several mobile phone shops across London. Full of new ideas and with his hands on approach and his very unique business style, in 2001 Alfie Best started the business which probably has changed his life. He invested in something that, to him, is a second nature – caravans. That year, he bought his very first mobile home park in Romford – Lakeview Residential Park – for £1.7million.

With his visionary leadership, he even managed to turn one of the worst recessions we’ve ever had into something positive. Within an environment where people started increasingly looking for downsizing but struggling to sell their homes, he looked at ways to facilitate that, by setting up a part-exchange scheme. This is the key to how Alfie Best works: he looks into a problem and finds a solution, usually working towards turning the problem into an opportunity.

Today, the business he started 15 years ago, is valued at £200 million. Wyldecrest Parks has recently been shortlisted as the finalist for the Essex TVs Business of the year award, it won the 2015 LondonlovesExcellence Retail & Property Business Award, is the biggest and largest park home operators in the UK, with 75 residential and holiday mobile home parks in its portfolio. It’s also the only park home operator in the country which is ISO 9001 accredited and the only one which has a nationwide portfolio, with sites spread across England, Scotland and Wales. Wyldecrest Parks will soon officially become the largest British and European park home operator.

Alongside Wyldecrest Parks, Alfie Best also owns other very successful businesses within the hospitality and leisure, events, trading and finance industries  Best Park Home Finance, Kyoto Clearance,Wylde Events to name but a few and has now created his own charity to help others.

“90% perspiration and 10% inspiration” is his life philosophy when we talk business. With all his success, it was not a total surprise for his name to be included in the 2016 Sunday Times Rich List. In 2013, Alfie Best and his extrovert and charming personality appeared on Channel 4’s programme “My Big Fat Gipsy Fortune”, which contributed to his ever increasing public profile, followed by several other media appearances such as BBC’s “Britain’s Spending Secrets” presented by Anne Robinson or most recently Eammon and Ruth’s series “How the Other Life Lives”. But it’s still his dynamic, self-taught personality and, above all, his thrilling enthusiasm to drive projects forward that keep him in the path for success.

Due to his accurate business vision, strong and inspirational leadership, drive, ambition, persistence, and hands-on approach personality, Alfie Best has achieved the status of a successful entrepreneur and a multimillionaire businessman, respected and admired amongst the most varied circles of people, from different ages, cultures and backgrounds in the mouth.
